Tool Box: Project Management Software

Posted on Monday, April 14, 2003 @ 08:22 PM EDT

Anonymous writes "The following are low-cost software products related to project management. They are suitable for both administrative and academic use.

http://www.billmcmillan.com/CAN-PLAN $20
http://www.billmcmillan.com/MASTER-PLAN $20
http://www.billmcmillan.com/PROJECT-TIME $20

CAN-PLAN is a small project management system. It supports dynamic costing, and Critical Path analysis, will produce reports suitable for project status meetings or executive reporting, and generates a Gantt chart with a current day/week timeline, for a 53 day, 53 week or 53 month floating window.

MASTER-PLAN will allow monitoring of MANY projects or assignments, with just one line per project, showing planned against actual in background colors and foreground characters in the Gantt chart. It also summarizes progress by quartile. This is one of the easiest package to learn and use.

PROJECT-TIME will support timesheet reporting by up to 50 staff against up to 200 projects, with push-button operations for update, reversal, sorting and reporting. It allows 20 administrative categories to be defined against which time may be reported (vacation, sick, courses, training, support, etc.)

I am trying to put project management software on the market at as low a cost as possible. Products like Microsoft Project cost about $600 per Client Access License (CAL), and other products cost even more. My software is not as powerful as some others, but it has some features that they don't. And in any case, by any measure, it is well worth the $20 price tag.
