Events: 9/10/02 Breakfast Club: Winning Business- Traps and Pitfalls as a Consultant

Posted on Thursday, August 29, 2002 @ 07:17 PM EDT

amichalek writes "Are you having trouble evaluating which business opportunities are real?

Do prospective clients call you in, ask you lots of questions, distance themselves, and then steal your ideas?

Are you so excited to tell a client what you can do for them that you spend two hours and tell them everything without charging them?

Are you working too hard and too long on opportunities that just "never quite get there?"

Does a potential piece of business suck up a lot of your resources for a month or two (or longer!), only to fizzle out because the client ultimately did not have a budget for it anyway, or the budget "went away?"

Do you seem to be working on an ever-changing set of requirements?

Is running after business costing you more than it's worth?

Learn how to be more savvy about who you pursue as a client, how you analyze a particular potential piece of business, and how to turn it into a contract in less time. Once inside an account, most consultants are also leaving business on the table, and don't even know it! Take advantage of some simple tips for exploring the full potential with a client.

Kristin Linder, theLINDERgroup has been advising clients on these problems for years - and she's a consultant herself. Kristin has spent most of her 20+ years career in the global hi-tech environment, working in sales, or consulting with high-tech consultants, sales and management. Hi-tech sales frequently are complex and require long sales cycles. She works with a variety of clients whose goals are all the same - understanding the client and their business in greater depth, turning that information into a contract - in less time and increasing long term client retention.

This morning was my first time to attend a Unit-of-One breakfast, and I'm really glad I went. Kristin Linder's presentation was thought provoking, useful, and well presented. I look forward to attending future meetings.
